What Actually Happens During a Move-In Deep Clean

You’ve got the keys. You’re ready to make the space yours. But before the furniture goes in and the boxes get unpacked, there’s one thing worth doing first — a proper move-in deep clean.

We get a lot of questions about what this actually involves. “Is it just wiping down the counters?” (No.) “Does it include the inside of the cabinets?” (Yes.) “What about the appliances?” (All of them.)

Here’s exactly what you can expect when Third & Lennox shows up for a move-in deep clean.

We Start from the Top — Literally
Before we touch a single surface, we dry mop all walls and ceilings to remove dust and cobwebs. It sounds simple, but it’s the kind of thing that gets skipped — and then falls right back down onto everything you just cleaned. We don’t skip it.

Every lighting fixture gets cleaned, including high hats and ceiling fans. Every trim piece, baseboard, door, door frame, piece of hardware, and light switch gets dusted and polished. We work our way through the entire space methodically, so nothing gets missed.

Interior windows and sills are deep cleaned throughout, and all exterior vents are cleaned as well.

The Kitchen Gets the Full Treatment
The kitchen is where we really dig in — and we mean that literally.

All cabinetry is cleaned inside and out. Hardware is polished. The backsplash gets scrubbed to remove any oil residue left behind. Every surface is cleaned and polished. Garbage cans are deep cleaned and sanitized.

Appliances are fully detailed — the oven, stovetop, hood, venting, dishwasher, and microwave are all thoroughly cleaned. The refrigerator and freezer get the same treatment: we remove all bins and shelving to clean the interior completely. Closets and pantries too.

This is not a wipe-down. It’s a full reset.

Bathrooms: Deep Cleaned and Sanitized
Every bathroom in the home is deep cleaned and sanitized — interior and exterior cabinetry, vanities, mirrors, tile work, and hardware. Toilets are fully detailed. We treat every bathroom as if it were the only one in the house.

Every Room, Every Closet
Bedrooms are thoroughly cleaned, closets and closet systems included. Living spaces — offices, dens, and common areas — are deep cleaned, including any woodwork and built-ins.

Staircases are cleaned by hand: banisters, spindles, treads, and risers. Every step, every spindle.

The Rooms You Might Not Think About

The laundry room is fully deep cleaned, including all cabinetry. The washer and dryer are cleaned — including the detergent drawer — and where possible, we move them to clean underneath and behind without damaging the floor or disconnecting the appliances.

Utility and storage rooms are thoroughly cleaned as well, including any large appliances.

Finishing with the Floors
Once every surface, fixture, and room has been addressed, we finish with the flooring. All floors are thoroughly vacuumed and mopped where necessary — a clean finish to a complete clean.

Why It Matters Before You Move In
A move-in deep clean is one of those things that’s easiest to do before your life is in the space. Once the furniture is arranged and the pictures are hung, certain things just don’t get touched again for years. This is your window — and we’re here to make the most of it.
